The NHS Choices website calls blueberries “The grandad of the superfood trend”, valued for high levels of antioxidants and other nutrients. Indeed, some nutritionists believe that if you make only one change to your diet, it should be to add blueberries. I’m not going to argue with that, I eat them almost every day when they’re in season. Frozen blueberries aren’t so great to eat, but whenever I’m running or training at weekends I’m sure to reward myself with this perfectly balanced nutritional recovery treat.

Ingredients (for two good size glasses, or one giant one!)

One banana
One scoop of protein powder (I go for Sun Warrior vegan vanilla, by far my favourite with none of the whey flavour of milk based powders)
Big handful of frozen blueberries
Optional: teaspoon of maca and lucuma powder – Selva organic offer a great range of these superfood staples
Almond or other non dairy milk

Put all the above into a Nutribullet or other high powered blender, taking the milk up to the maximum level. Blend and serve!
